Do I need to turn off the player completely (LED off)?
It not necessary to turn off the unit completely (press and hold the front power/LED bar until the LED starts to flash and off). It is recommended to use the power keyon the remote to toggle the player between Standby and Player mode. When the player is in Standby mode, power to main CPU and HDD is shut off. Only a small amount of power is being supplied to a micro-controller to monitor the remote key input.
If the unit will not be operated for extended period of time, like going on a vacation, you can turn the unit completely off.
In Original version, the LED will remain on when in Standby mode. When the LED is off, you need to press the front power/LED bar to get into standby or USB (if USB connection is there) mode. When the unit is in player mode, the LED will flash when a remote signal is received.
In VR version, the LED will be turned off when in Standby mode.
When the unit is working from its drive or as an external storage, does it show the actual folders and their contents?
Yes! When working as a player, the UI will show the content of the folders on the TV. You can use the remote to select the file that you would like to play. There is also a thumbnail view for Photos. Basically, you select the device (Internal HDD, USB drive, or network drives), then the folder and sub folder.
When working as a USB drive, it will function just like a standard USB hard drive.
Is a device driver required to connect HV335T to a PC via USB?
No! The unit function like an external USB HDD when connected to a PC. It does not require special drivers on the PC.
Please note that to operate it as a player, USB connection to a PC needs to be disconnected. When the player is connected to a PC via USB, pressing the button on the front will put the player into USB mode and the player mode will be disabled. In order to turn on the player mode, safe remove HV335T from PC, disconnect the USB cable and power cycle the player (press and hold the front button until the LED is off and press the button again and use the remote standby button to turn the unit on to player mode).
This usually means HV335T is waiting for a firmware file to complete the upgrade process. Please make sure that a firmware file (install.img) is saved on a flash drive or USB hard drive. The firmware file needs to be on the USB drive and can not be on the internal HDD. Once HV335T sees the firmware, the upgrade will continue.
Please try the followings if the problem persists:
Remove the flash or USB HDD drive from HV335T and format the drive to NTFS with Windows default settings
Download the firmware again as the zip file may be corrupted during download
Unzip the download file and extract install.img to the root folder of the flash or USB HDD drive
Safe-remove the flash or USB HDD drive
Plug the flash or USB HDD drive to the front or back USB port on HV335T
DO NOT use USB card reader with memory card for firmware upgrade. The firmware update code does not have the necessary driver for USB card reader and the upgrade process will fail.
File scrolling when browsing files is slow
Please upgrade to firmware version 2.1 and above. The scrolling speed has been improved in the newer firmware.
The Network Setup Guide provides detailed instructions on how to set up HV335T file sharing and connect HV335T to network shares.
If HV335T does not detect internal HDD, file sharing will be disabled automatically. File sharing can also be turned on or off manually by going to the Setup menu. If you can not connect to HV335T's internal HDD from a PC, please make sure HV335T's file sharing is turned on.
Windows 7 may need additional setting adjustments to enable logging into its network shares. The link here has more information on how to fix this. Quick summary below:
Click the start button and type secpol.msc in the search function.
Browse to "Local Policies" -> "Security Options". Now look for the entry "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" and open it. Click on the drop down menu and select "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Apply the settings.
In the Advanced sharing settings page of Network and sharing center, you need to have it set as Work/Home profile. Try
Enable network discovery

HV335T cannot see SAMBA shares on my network, but uPnP is OK
This is usually a SAMBA local master browser related issue. HV335T may sometimes see the network shares and the next time can't. If this happens, please try the followings:
Power cycle the router/switch to see if this correct the problem. if not, continue with the procedures below
Disconnect everything from the router/switch
Power cycle the switch/router
Power on HV335T and connect it to the router/switch
Power on the network share server and connect it to the router/switch
HV335T should be able to see the network share now. If not, check network setup and verify if uPnP is still working
Connect the other devices back to the network one by one and check at which point, HV335T local browsing will fail

Network transfer between my PC and HV335T seem to be slow
HV335T is not a NAS server. The CPU inside is for general UI navigation and file system support. The transfer rate is about 2 MBps. For large file transfer, please use the USB connection
Can HV335T stream HD contents from PC or NAS server
Yes! HV335T can function as a media adapter without internal HDD installed. 1080p contents streaming over wired or 11.n wireless network are tested OK without noticing stutter frames. Whenever possible, user wired connection than wireless connection. 11.g Wi-Fi can also work for lower bit-rate contents. But if the content has high bit-rate, 11.g may not be fast enough.
Can HV335T support uPnP players such as PlayOn?
HV335T supports uPnP. You can select uPnP digital media server like PlayOn and stream Netflix movies or hulu from the PC running PlayOn to HV335T and watch the movie on TV. PlayOn is third-party software and may require extras fee for their service.
Can HV335T create playlists for audio files that are stored on the network?
Currently, HV335T only support playlist on the internal HDD. Audio files stored on the network can not be played back over the network within a playlist.
How do I edit HV335T playlist?
HV335T supports standard M3U format. But the file needs to be in Linux text file format (LF), not DOS text file format (CR+LF). Therefore, instead of using Windows notepad, download Metapad and use UNIX Text (LF) file format. This setting is under File menu.
Does HV335T support an USB DVD player?
No! HV335T’s USB host port does not support USB Optical Drive.
You can install the internal HDD yourself. There is a Quick User Guide included with the unit that shows how to install the hard drive to HV335T. Doing so will not void product warranty.
Do I need to install internal HDD in order to use HV335T?
No, the internal HDD is just one of the places where HV335T can play back the contents from. HV335T does not need internal HDD to work. Without the internal HDD, you can still play or stream contents from
USB drive (flash or HDD) connected to one of the USB ports
Network shares on network server
uPNP server
Can HV335T function like a DVR with internal HDD?
HV335T does not have a recording function. It is a player only.
But it is also a network server. To make it function like a DVR, you can use a PC with tuner input and you can save the recorded file over the network to the HDD in HV335T. You can map the HDD in HV335T as a network HDD and point the recording software to save files there. Or, the other way around. On the TV, you can then select the folder that contains your recorded programs and play them directly.
How do I initialize the HDD?
When installing new HDD, you should create a partition and format the HDD like a standard USB HDD. Use Windows Disk Management (Start button and right-click My Computer and select Management from menu) to initialize the HDD to a Primary Partition. Then format the HDD to NTFS or FAT32 file system using default File Allocation Size. Choosing non-default file allocation size may cause the HDD not recognized by HV335T. NTFS file system is recommended as FAT32 can only allow file size below 4GB. Some video files can be larger than 4GB easily.
My HV335T does not see the internal HDD when in Playback mode, but OK in USB mode.
This is usually because the HDD is not partitioned as Primary Partition or the File Allocation Size used during formatting is not the default size. Please try repartition the HDD to Primary Partition and formatting the partition using default File Allocation Size.
Can HV335T support multiple partitions on the internal HDD?
In player mode, HV335T can only mount the first partition on the internal HDD. When in USB mode, the PC will be able to access to all partitions. Therefore, when initializing internal HDD, allocate all the space available in one partition if the whole HDD is used for player mode.
Do you have a table showing the HDD that are compatible or not compatible with HV335T?
Most of the HDD that we have tested are compatible. Only a certain WD HDD models manufactured during late 2009 have compatibility. But WD already provides a firmware upgrade to resolve the compatibility issue.

My WD HDD is not compatible with my HV335T.
WD 1TB HDD (and larger) with date code between “01 SEP 2009” and “14 DEC 2009” may have compatibility issues with HV335T. Please contact WD for firmware upgrade to solve this issue.
I saw the need for firmware update for certain WD dated hard drives. Does this only apply to those or any WD hard drive?
This only applies to the WD HDD (only on some the units built during Sep-Dec 2009). WD has new firmware to correct this issue already. Other brands of HDD that we have tested did not have problem. These include Seagate and Hitachi HDD.
Remote control not working
If the remote is not working, please try the followings:
The insulation tab on the battery may be still in place. Please remove the tab to enable the battery power
The battery of the remote control is depleted. Replace a new battery
The distance between the player and the remote is too far apart or the angel is too wide
The player froze. Remove the power from the player and then reconnect the power
You can also program a universal remote controller to emulate an Argosy remote. Just program the universal remote to control a Toshiba DVD player and use the code with best matched keys. In some cases, the channel up/down keys and volume up/down keys are used as directional up, down, left, right keys.
You can also purchase Argosy replacement remote controller at the on-line store.
A possible reason is that the video setting of the device is not compatible with the TV. To switch the setting, press the TV SYS key on the remote to cycle through different settings (switch to next setting by pressing TV SYS key once). When the screen is working properly again, set Video setting to a compatible mode with highest screen resolution. Please refer to the user manual for how to configure Video Setup.
When traveling abroad, the TV system may be different from the setting in home country. Pressing TV SYS key will also cycle through NTSC and PAL video system. Once the compatible one is found, you can go into the Video setup menu to choose a better display resolution or progressive scanning mode that the TV can support.
Please note that HV335T's TV SYS key will be functional only after the player is powered on and before pressing any other key. This is to prevent HV335T from changing its display setting when TV SYS key is pressed accidentally. If the TV lost its display, please turn off HV335T and turn it on again. Then try the TV SYS key to bring the menu back on the TV before continuing.
My TV can not show 1080p with HV335T over HDMI connection. But ok at 720p!
Make sure your TV is capable of displaying 1080p resolution. Some of the older TV can only support 1080i/720p resolution. If the TV is capable of 1080p, try a better-grade HDMI cable in order to work at 1080p resolution. Try another HDMI port on the TV to see if this can be resolved. Some TV only support 1080p on a certain HDMI input port.
HV335T can play AVCHD files recorded by compatible HD camcorders. Most HD camcorders support AVCHD format. The recorded files are stored in m2ts or mts files on the internal flash memory or hard drive.
HV335T can also play most .mov video files shot by digital cameras in video mode. Photos are of course no problem.
HV335T's USB port can usually connect to the camcorder or camera directly if they don't require special driver when connected to a PC. When connected, go to the USB device menu and navigate down the sub folder tree to find the photos or the video files. You can play from the camcorder or camera or use COPY/PASTE feature to copy the files to the internal HDD.
Does HV335T support BD/DVD ISO?
Yes! HV335T support DVD ISO (or folder) and DVD menu. You can play DVD ISO/Folder file and use it like a regular DVD player with the remote.
HV335T can play BD ISO or BD folder. But BD menu currently is not supported yet.
How do I select one file in a DVD or BD folder to play?
HV335T will automatically play a DVD or BD folder when the folder name is selected and the PLAY key is pressed. To enter the folder, use the RIGHT directional key, instead of the PLAY key.
In 2.x firmware, there is an added feature called Internet TV under IMS menu. This will allow you to watch streaming TV from valid streaming sites.
Please note that valid streaming site does not mean web site with video or music streaming like Youtube, Netflix, etc. The streaming protocol supported here are MMS or RTSP.
First, you need to find a working streaming site that is streaming valid mms or rtsp feed. If you can use Windows Media Player or VLC player to play the contents from the streaming site, copy and paste the site address to a text editor. Then save the file in HV335T's internal HDD under Net TV folder. The file extension needs to be .url. When playing, navigate to IMS and Internet TV, you will see the site listed, select the site and hit Play key. If the streaming server is working, you should see the content being loaded and will start playing once the connection is established.
How do I show subtitle in a language that is not in Text Encoding setting?
You can use UTF encoding under Text Encoding setting (in Setup/System menu) to show subtitle file that is Unicode encoded. This includes the language (character set) that is not in Text Encoding setting.
However, you will need a subtitle file that is Unicode encoded. If the subtitle file is not Unicode encoded, you can use a utility tool (like Notepad++) to convert non-Unicode encoded file to Unicode encoded file. To do that with Notepad++, open the original file (non-Unicode encoded) and select the correct character set under Encoding menu. Once the correct character set is chosen, select Convert to UTF-8 under Encoding menu and save the converted file. Use the same extension as the original file and the same movie name plus something like "UTF-8" on the last part of the filename.
Remember to set Text Encoding setting to UTF and press the subtitle key to select the converted (Unicode encoded) file.
How to use the FileJump feature in HV335T?
FileJump is a new feature added in HV335T firmware V2.3 and above. This feature allows you jump to and play a particular file within a folder by entering the numbers matching the numbers in the beginning of the filename.
For example, music CD files usually have track number 01~nn in the beginning of the track (file) name. With FileJump, you can enter "07" to play the 7th track directly. Or, you can use a bulk rename utility to add 0001~9999 in front of you Karaoke collection.
To use this, press the Shift key (the key above RETURN key on 33-key remote) in file browser mode. A rectangle box will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Enter the numbers (including the leading zero) matching the numbers of the filename and press the Play key. If there is a match, the player will jump to the select file and start playing immediately.
The FileJump feature is available only when in browser mode. You will need to stop the playback in order to select another file to play.
Does HV335T support dvr-ms or wtv format?
HV335T does not support dvr-ms or wtv format. These files are video files recorded by Windows Media Center and contain proprietary file format and may also include DRM (digital rights management) protection.
Can HV335T play WMV 7 or 8 files?
HV335T does not support WMV 7 (WMV1) or WMV 8 (WMV2) codec. Only WMV 9 (WMV3) is supported.
Unsupported GMC or QPEL error
HV335T does not support Xvid files with GMC or Qpel enabled. Such file needs to be recoded in order to work with HV335T. Please Google "Recode GMC QPEL" or reference this link for recoding resolution.
Download and install the program. Use the Add button to add the mkv file, then go to "Extra Option" and set "Compress" to None. After that, click the Remux button to re-code the mkv file. The new mkv file should now play OK on HV335T.
In D2.35 Beta release, mkv compressed header is supported. There is no need to re-code the mkv file is using D2.35 and above.
Video downloaded from Amazon is in WMV 9 format but it does not play on HV335T
Video purchased from most video download sites are DRM protected. HV335T does not support DRM protected video. This includes Amazon Unbox and Apple iTunes.
Can HV335T work with Mac?
Yes, but with some restrictions. The file system of the HDD in HV335T needs to be formatted to either FAT32 or NTFS. Therefore, MAC’s default file system will not work.
Also, the network protocol supported by HV335T is SMB. Only Mac OS X 10.1 or later can connect to HV335T with SMB protocol. The following link provides the details.

Upgrade Procedures
Download the .zip file and save it in a temporary folder (download WinRAR here if you don't have tool to extract .zip files)
Extract the install.img in .zip file to the root folder of a flash drive or USB drive (but NOT to the internal HDD of HV335T, which is not supported. Also DO NOT use USB card reader with memory card because of compatibility issue)
Safe remove the USB drive from PC (Important! HV335T may not read the install.img if not safe-removed and may hang during the upgrade)
Connect the USB drive with install.img to one of the USB ports and turn on HV335T (if not on yet) in playback mode
Go to Setup => System => System Upgrade
HV335T will look for install.img in root folder and will shut down and turn back on into upgrade mode. The TV will go black for a short period and will then show HV335T boot screen. At this point, HV335T will seems to be down and no LED. The duration will be about 90 seconds or longer. Do not remove power to HV335T and wait at least 10 minutes before performing the following procedures!
Try the followings if HV335T's LED keeps flashing:
Remove the flash or USB drive from HV335T and format the drive with Windows default settings
Download the firmware again as the zip file may be corrupted during download
Unzip the download file and extract install.img to the root folder of the flash or USB drive
Plug the flash or USB drive to the front or back USB port on HV335T
Then HV335T will show a progress bar on TV screen showing its progress in writing the firmware to the flash memory. This will take about 2 minutes (Some TV may lost diaplay or showing unsupported mode error message, wait for at least 10 minutes for the display to come back)
Once flash update is successful, HV335T will turn off and reboot itself into the new firmware
You can go to Setup => System => Version to verify the new version number
